AFRICA BUCKET LIST

The experiences that will make you fall in love with Africa

As compiled by people who live, work and travel in Africa — and who were interviewed for the #IHeartAfricaProject

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER

Africa is not a destination to be experienced in just one way. It is a continent of extraordinary contrasts, where ancient cultures, vast wilderness, remarkable wildlife, dramatic landscapes and unforgettable human encounters come together to create experiences that stay with you for life.

Inspired by the journeys and stories shared throughout I Heart Africa Project, this bucket list brings together some of the most memorable experiences our contributors have encountered across the continent. From standing beneath the Victoria Falls and watching the Great Migration unfold across the Serengeti, to climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, meeting traditional communities, volunteering with rescued wildlife, sleeping beneath African stars or simply sharing a meal with people who welcome you into their homes, these are experiences that go far beyond ordinary sightseeing.

Some are grand adventures. Others are quiet moments of connection. Some will challenge you physically, while others may change the way you see the world.

There is no single way to experience Africa, and there is no single definition of adventure. Whether you dream of tracking gorillas through the rainforest, crossing deserts, exploring ancient cities, sailing the waterways of the Okavango, encountering Africa’s extraordinary wildlife or simply slowing down long enough to listen to the people who call this continent home, there is something here to inspire your own journey.

Consider this your invitation to dream bigger, travel deeper and start creating your own African bucket list.
